Deep vein thrombosis early warning symptoms
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can affect anyone. Therefore, it is important that everyone knows about the condition, especially those who are in the high-risk category. When the condition is diagnosed at an early stage, it can be treated and severe complications, such as disability, can be prevented. To help with the same, here are some deep vein thrombosis early warning symptoms to take note of.

  • Pain and swelling
When there is a blood clot formation, it can cause pain and swelling. But the symptoms can be experienced in one leg only, and they most often start from the calf. Tenderness, an ache, or soreness will be experienced, instead of a stabbing pain. The sensation of pain can become worse after you have been walking or standing for long periods of time. When the condition is not diagnosed, it is common to mistake the pain caused by DVT with a muscle pull or any other muscle-related injury. Pain caused by DVT will only get worse as the condition progresses and it will not go away even after rest.
  • Cramping
Leg cramping is a common problem and most people have experienced at some point in their life. The cramping of the muscles usually takes place at night and lasts for several minutes. When there is a blood clot formation in the leg, it can lead to muscle cramps in the calf. Just like pain, muscle cramping will also not go away and will get worse as the condition progresses. Additionally, unlike normal leg cramps, these will not go away by walking or stretching. In some cases, muscle cramping can also be experienced in the thighs along with a throbbing sensation.
  • Warmness on the skin
The symptoms of DVT are caused due to a blockage in the flow of blood, with one of the signs being the warm feeling of the skin. This happens when the flow of blood is not normal. As a result of this obstruction, the blood starts to fill in the outer veins, which make the area warm. This can be felt in the area which is right over the vein. In some cases, warmth can be felt in the entire calf area or the limb.
